What is SSSTS?

Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme

The SSSTS (Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme) is a 2-day course for site supervisors, foremen, and chargehands in the UK construction industry. It is the supervisor-level equivalent of SMSTS.

Who needs SSSTS?

SSSTS is for anyone in a supervisory role who is not yet at full management level — chargehands, foremen, gangers, and new supervisors. It is commonly required before someone moves into an SMSTS role.

What does SSSTS cover?

The course covers health and safety law relevant to supervisors, risk assessment basics, accident prevention, toolbox talks, CDM awareness, and how to manage safe working practices on site.

How much does SSSTS cost?

Prices range from £185 to £295 depending on location. Online versions are typically cheaper.

SSSTS vs SMSTS

SSSTS is 2 days (supervisor level) while SMSTS is 5 days (manager level). SSSTS is a stepping stone — many people complete SSSTS first, gain experience, then take SMSTS when they move into a management role.
