A CSCS card proves that you have the right qualifications and training for the construction job you do. Almost every UK construction site requires one for entry. Here is everything you need to know about getting yours.
The CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card is an ID card that proves you have the qualifications and health & safety training required for your role on a construction site. There are different colours for different skill levels.
Green Card — for labourers and new entrants (Level 1 H&S + HS&E test). Blue Card — for skilled workers (NVQ Level 2 + HS&E test). Gold Card — for supervisors (NVQ Level 3/4 or SSSTS + HS&E test). Black Card — for site managers (NVQ Level 6/7 + Managers HS&E test).
The CITB HS&E test is a touch-screen multiple-choice test taken at a Pearson VUE test centre. There are two versions: Operatives (for Green/Blue cards) and Managers & Professionals (for Gold/Black cards). You get 45 minutes for 50 questions and need to score 45+ (90%) to pass.
Green Card: ~£300 total. Blue Card: ~£1000+ total.
